Today we had a brilliant visit from author John Dougherty. He spoke to us about being an author and introduced us to his Stinkbomb and Ketchup-Face series of books. Our session started with John singing his theme tune for his series of books and he taught us how to join in with the chorus. John told us how a story, like a tree, begins as a little seed and grows into big ideas, through daydreams and questions. He explained where the idea for his Stinkbomb and Ketchup-Face characters came from and where he found seeds of inspiration for other characters. He then read an extract from book 1 in the series, ‘Stinkbomb and Ketchup and the Badness of Badgers’, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We had the opportunity to ask him questions about his books and about being an author. He wished us not just a great book day but a great book life and finished the session with a very entertaining song!
